Davey 9 months old

Yesterday Davey turned 9 months! It was a little sad for me. It made me realize how quickly my baby boy is growing and becoming more independent. Doug has been getting after me because Davey has pretty much outgrown his rear facing car seat, but I refused to put him in a front facing one until he was 9 months, and so as of yesterday he is now in a front facing car seat and he looks so much older, like a big boy :(!!! Although there are some perks to him growing up! Independence can be a good thing. He can entertain himself a little more now! He eats crackers and other finger foods by himself.

Last month I thought he hated solid food altogether, but now I know that he just hates baby food. I am pretty sure he hates the consistency of it. Anything I give him from my plate he has no problem eating. He likes to be able to chew it. He has been doing the army crawl the last little while but now he is starting to get on all fours, so I am pretty sure in the next few days he will start to crawl with his stomach off the floor. He is still such a happy baby, so easy going! This last month we played lots with his toys, went to the park a few times, went on some walks, went swimming and went to story time at the library as well. He also loves sitting in the shopping cart, while we go grocery shopping. The first time I put him in it, I buckled him in and gave him a cracker. He ended up putting his legs up on the handle as if he was laying back very comfortable and munched on his cracker just taking in the scenery. It was the cutest thing ever. A new thing that he likes to do is play the keyboard. I roll his highchair up to it and strap him in and he goes crazy hitting the keys and babbles to the sound. It is pretty funny to watch.

Davey is currently at 23 lbs and 6.5 oz and 30.25 inches long and he is in the 99th percentile.

This evening reminded me that there are truly angels that watch over us, I know Davey has one watching over him. As I was making dinner I had so many things cooking at once. I was attending to the griddle on the counter and had some oil in the frying pan heating up. And Davey was below on the floor playing. In the meantime Doug smelled something burning, which was the oil. He grabbed the frying pan off of the stove, thinking he was helping me but not realizing that there was oil in it. As he grabbed it all of the hot boiling oil flew forward with the movement and fell to the floor splattering all over the ground below just missing little Davey by an inch. I honestly don't know how he wasn't hit with the oil, not even a speck. It was truly a miracle for our little family.

Seattle Trip

The long awaited trip to Seattle finally came and went. Celia and Devan tied the knot in the Seattle Temple almost two weeks ago. The one thing I hate about being on the east coast is the time it takes to travel back out west. From the time we left our house until we got to Seattle it had been about 12 hours. Luckily Davey is a great little traveler and did awesome! He slept most of the time and was pretty happy and content on my lap. I guess as long as he isn't strapped in a car seat he is good to go!

We stayed with Diana the first few days and Davey absolutely loved it because there were other little ones running around. His personality is coming out more and more and I can already tell he is a social little thing. He loves other kids, as long as his cousins paid attention to him, he really didn't need me. Which was a good thing since Doug and I made the wedding cake. It took us about two days to bake and decorate. Doug impressed me with his skills, and he is turning into quite the baker. The hardest part of the cake was transporting it in the car for about 2 hours.

One funny thing that happened is when my mom and Celia were baking all the wedding cupcakes. They had them cooling in a long plastic bin, well Davey found them and somehow grabbed one and started eating it. No one noticed until he had it all over himself and the ground. He for sure has his mom's sweet tooth! I love that little guy so much!

The trip was such a good one, but went by way too fast. We got to see all my siblings, which was so nice! This was the first time we were all together since my Dad had passed over 3 years ago! I know he was watching down from heaven on such an important day in his daughters life. Celia was such a beautiful bride and the wedding turned out perfectly! Although, it is still strange to think of her as married! Congratulations to Celia and Devan!!! My hope now is that Devan will be able to handle her :)

On our way back from Seattle we had a 5 hour layover in Houston. We were able to check on the house and have dinner with some of our Houston friends! It was a great day, but it did make me feel a little homesick for Houston. It was hard seeing our house and friends and leaving again, although slowly but surely North Carolina is starting to feel a little bit like home.

David 8 months old

Davey is 8 months old as of January 28th. This last month we switched doctors, so we are now all at the same doctor, and he is by far better than his last one. He is currently at 23 lbs and 5 oz, which puts him at the 99th percentile. Yeah I know my baby is big, he for sure has helped with my strength training each day. This month Davey is getting around more and more. He is currently doing the army crawl and can quickly get from one place to another. He hasn't really shown interest in pulling himself up or standing yet, which I am thankful for. He learned how to drink from a straw and can now open up cabinets. He still loves his bath, and hates his car seat. He loves books and his toys. We finally got him a highchair this last month, which has made it nice for us, but he doesn't care for it so much. He is now going through a stage of not liking solid foods anymore and only wants milk. I was concerned but my doctor assured me that he is just fine only drinking breast milk for the first year. I just hope he gets over this quickly. He loves taking his naps. He also loves to swim, I have taken him a few times to the local aquatic center and he has had a blast. I love to see him experience new things for the first time. He is now starting to have separation anxiety and hates going to strangers. He still loves to smile and laugh. He also loves to throw things. I can sit with him for hours throwing the ball back and forth. For the most part he is a very happy baby still.

Doug's Birthday

Doug celebrated his birthday on January 12th. I won't say how old he is, because he doesn't like me to remind him :) But I will say that he had a great day! He spent the day at work (which isn't that fun) but then he came home and we went to dinner and celebrated. I made him a baseball cake, which was a HUGE challenge with a little guy at me feet the whole time, but I think it turned out pretty good. I just didn't get to completely finish it how I wanted to because Davey wasn't having it. But Doug loved it! We also made him a candy bar card and gave him the movie Moneyball. Then Doug finished off the day with a ward basketball game, they didn't win, which was a bummer, but he had a good game.
